The city of Birmingham is reeling after the shocking death of Demetrice Beverly, a 38-year-old married youth football coach and mentor. Beverly, who once guided young athletes at Parker High School, was fatally shot inside a Lakeshore Ridge apartment on August 13, 2025.
According to police, Beverly was inside the apartment with a 21-year-old woman—a former student he once coached—when her boyfriend, 23-year-old De’Corlion Keshaun Robinson, came home unexpectedly. In a fit of rage, Robinson allegedly opened fire, killing Beverly instantly.
The incident has sparked outrage, grief, and debate. While Beverly’s family describes him as a dedicated coach who made an unfortunate mistake, Robinson now faces murder charges and additional counts related to an illegal firearm modification device found in his possession.
At Parker High School, Beverly is being remembered not for the scandal but for his positive impact on students’ lives. Head Coach Frank Warren said: “Life can be short. One day you’re at practice, the next you’re gone. We’ll honor him by standing together.”
The case highlights the devastating consequences of broken trust, impulsive violence, and complex relationships, leaving behind a grieving family, a shocked school community, and an accused young man whose life has also been derailed forever.
🕊️🙏 Rest in Peace, Coach Beverly.
